You can probably see the challenge here: as a highly sensitive person you need that alone time but as an extrovert, you need to spend time with people. Highly sensitive extroverts make up only about 30% of the highly sensitive population. The first time I heard about being a “highly sensitive person” I didn’t think anything of it. It sounded like a misogynistic term, much like hysterterical, a word to describe something completely average but stereotypically feminine in nature – a way to put down those who feel and care and cry. HSPs are identified as being more emotionally intelligent, intuitive, creative and sensitive to stimuli than the average person. When these traits are combined with extroversion, they can create the illusion of introversion.
